Men and women work hard and tolerate extreme pain to get rid of body hair. Men are better off than women in some ways. They can shave their face daily to get rid of their facial hair while women resort to much extreme means like threading, tweezing and laser treatments.

There are several hair removal options:

1) Waxing: This is the most common way to get rid of body hair. Hot wax and cold wax solutions are used in this method. The new hair takes about three weeks to grow back again. Waxing does give the skin a smooth finish, but it tends to cause skin abrasions. People with sensitive skins have to take extra care when they have freshly waxed their skin. A disinfectant should be applied, and exfoliation should be avoided for at least a week.

Waxing is done on all parts of the body. Women also wax their upper lips and the sides of their faces. Men too are not far behind in this process of eliminating body hair.

2) Threading: The next most popular way to get rid of hair is to thread it. Of course, an expert is required to do this. One cannot thread their own face or upper lip with ease. Women use this method on their eyebrows and upper lips. Some also get their full face threaded. Although threading is painful, but many prefer this as compared to waxing their upper lip. This method keeps the hair away for around three weeks.

3) Tweezing: This method of getting rid of hair is very convenient and can be done anytime. All you need to remember is that the hair should be pulled in the direction the growing hair. There is definitely pain involved but after some pluck, the area gets de-sensitized to pain. Tweezing is good to shape eyebrows, to get rid of excess hair above the lips and chin. The right shaped tweezers tong reduces the pain and efficiently helps to work on the desired eyebrow shape.

4) Depilatory Creams: Hair removal creams are well-stocked on all supermarket shelves. These depilatory creams and lotions are available according to skin types like normal, dry and sensitive skin. Some of them claim to have moisturizers and leave a creamy texture on the skin’s surface. This hair removing creams dissolve hair in few minutes but re-appears faster as compared to waxing.

In some skin types, the hair removing creams leave dark patches especially on the underarms. Care should be taken when applying these depilatory creams, and they should never be used on cracked, scratched or irritated skin. These creams should be kept away from children.

5) Shaving: Like men, many women still prefer shaving their legs, arms and underarms. There are razors available designed just for women’s needs. Always use a sharp razor and avoid shaving on dry skin. Lather the soap well before shaving to avoid nicks and cuts. Shaving keeps the hair out for a day or so. A post-shave product should be used to keep a check on ingrown hair and irritation.

Laser hair removal treatments are gaining popularity. They seem to offer permanent hair removal. Make sure you consult a specialist and check their reputation in the market before trying out such treatments. Many have faced problems of scarring and other skin allergies due to negligent and unhygienic conditions of the procedure.
