When was the last time you realized you were stressed? Was it when you had an excruciating headache or was it when someone asked to calm down and take in a deep breath?

Does this sound familiar?

Most of us are stressed throughout our entire day, and the best part of it is we are totally unaware. Getting stressed is our second nature, nature, and we justify it as a “good thing” because it keeps us alert, helps to meet deadlines and provides a stepping stone to success. However, that is all a myth.

Stress silently affects the functioning of the body and takes control of our appetite, moods, digestive and neurological system and everything along the way. It is like a virus that remains dormant and gets alive when we do any task related to life or profession. Anxieties lead to hypertension, which slowly builds up and affects the blood pressure and the heart. Some get prone to anxiety attacks while other get ulcers, acid reflux problems, insomnia and even depression.

Taking vacations every few months may not be feasible for many. Weekend getaways do provide a vent for stress. Spa weekends and getting aromatic massages done will help you take your mind off work and worldly troubles.

There are no quick fixes if you are prone to stress at the sound of your cell phone ring tone but few stress therapy techniques can help to ease the tension.

Relaxation Tips:

1) There are several relaxation techniques for anxiety like breathing exercises, drinking a glass of water and counting backwards to bring the heartbeat to slow down.

Overtly stressed individuals tend to lose control of themselves and can indulge in binge eating, take up drinking and smoking. Comfort foods like chocolates, pastries, ice cream and varieties of fried foods add to the calorie intake and do nothing to release stress. Sugary treats to increase the sugar level in the blood and gives a feeling of happiness, but that it is momentarily.

Once, the effect wears off, the person feels even worse than before.  Managing stress is a process and a person needs to know what affects them and in what way so that they can find workable solutions. Stress affects the person’s looks and can add years to a youthful face. It causes hair loss, grey hair, and it can even become a reason for baldness. Stress relief techniques do work. All you need to know is that which one suits you and your lifestyle more appropriately.
